PAN Card Update Status (Track PAN Correction / Name Change / Address Update)
If you have submitted a request to update your PAN card details, the next step is to track the progress online. A PAN card update status check helps you confirm whether your request is under processing, approved, rejected, or dispatched.
This guide explains how to check your update status, what each status means, and what to do if your PAN update is delayed.
What is PAN Card Update Status?
PAN card update status shows the live progress of your PAN update request submitted through NSDL (Protean) or UTIITSL.
It applies to all types of PAN updates, such as:
- PAN name correction
- Father name correction
- Date of birth (DOB) correction
- Address update
- Photo or signature update
So even if you updated only one detail, the tracking system will show the status under the same update request.

When Should You Check PAN Update Status?
You should check the PAN update status when:
- You submitted your correction request online
- Payment is done successfully
- You received an acknowledgement number
- You want to know whether your update is approved or still pending
In most cases, the status starts showing within a few hours after submission.

What You Need to Track PAN Card Update Status
Before checking status, keep these details ready:
Acknowledgement number (most important)
Date of birth (DOB) as per PAN record
Registered mobile number (optional, but useful)
If you don't have the acknowledgement number, your request cannot be tracked properly in most cases.
➡️ If you haven't applied yet, start from PAN Card Correction Form
How to Check PAN Card Update Status Online (Step-by-Step)
PAN update status depends on where you applied. Most users apply via either:
- NSDL / Protean portal
- UTIITSL portal
1Step 1: Identify where you applied
If you used the NSDL (Protean) portal, track it using NSDL tracking.
If you used the UTIITSL portal, track it using UTI tracking.
2Step 2: Enter acknowledgement details
Use your acknowledgement number and DOB.
3Step 3: View status
The status will show whether your request is:
- Under verification
- Approved
- Rejected
- Dispatched
PAN Card Update Status Types (What Each Status Means)
Different portals may show different wording, but the meaning is usually the same.
1) Application Received
This means your request is submitted successfully, and processing has started.
2) Under Verification
Your documents are being checked (name proof, DOB proof, address proof, etc.).
➡️ If you want to confirm the required proofs, visit: Documents Required for PAN Correction
3) Approved / Processed
This means your correction is accepted and the updated PAN details are now in processing.
4) Rejected
Your request may be rejected due to:
- wrong documents uploaded
- mismatch in name or DOB proof
- signature/photo not clear
- Aadhaar mismatch
➡️ If rejection happens, recheck your details from: PAN Card Name Correction Guide
5) Dispatched / Delivered
If you requested a physical card, the portal may show dispatch status.
If you requested only e-PAN, the status may show completed without delivery.
PAN Name Change Status vs PAN Correction Status (Same or Different?)
This is a common confusion.
PAN name change status is not a separate tracking system. It is part of the same correction/update tracking.
So whether you updated:
- name
- father name
- address
- DOB
You will still track it using the same PAN card update status page.
➡️ If your update is specifically related to name or DOB, follow: PAN Card Name Correction
PAN Address Update Status (How It Works)
If you updated your address on PAN card, the tracking system will show:
- whether the request is approved
- whether the new address is updated
- whether physical PAN card is dispatched
Address update usually requires valid address proof.
➡️ View the list of accepted proofs here: PAN Correction Documents
How Long Does PAN Update Take?
PAN update processing time depends on:
- portal (NSDL vs UTI)
- document verification
- workload at the processing center
- whether physical dispatch is requested
In most cases, PAN update is completed within a few working days.

PAN Update Status Not Showing? (Common Reasons)
If your status is not showing, it usually happens due to one of these reasons:
1) You are checking too early
Sometimes tracking starts after a few hours.
2) Wrong portal selected
If you applied through NSDL and check on UTI (or vice versa), you may see "Record not found".
3) Incorrect acknowledgement number
Even one digit mistake will show no results.
4) Payment not completed
If payment failed, your request is not processed.
PAN Update Approved but Details Not Updated?
Sometimes your status shows "Processed", but your updated details are not visible instantly.
This happens because:
- the database updates in stages
- e-PAN generation may take additional time
- physical dispatch tracking may start later
If it has been more than a few days, you should recheck your acknowledgement and portal.
What to Do If PAN Update is Rejected?
If your correction request is rejected, you should:
- Read the rejection reason carefully
- Fix the issue (document mismatch / wrong proof)
- Apply again using the correct form
