PAN Correction / Update: Complete Guide

A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is one of the most important identification numbers in India, issued by the Income Tax Department. It is mandatory for financial transactions such as filing income tax returns, opening a bank account, applying for loans, investing in mutual funds, and many others.

Sometimes, PAN cardholders may find that their details such as name, date of birth, photograph, father's name, or signature are incorrect or outdated. In such cases, it is necessary to apply for a PAN Correction / Update. Both NSDL (Protean eGov Technologies Ltd.) and UTIITSL provide online services to correct or update PAN details.

This guide explains how to correct details on PAN card, the list of documents required, applicable fees and charges, and all the important notices that applicants must know.
